This workshop* is designed for those searching for emotional and spiritual sobriety. Centering is a method of practicing the 11th Step to improve our conscious contact with our Higher Power. “Sought through prayer and meditation” deals with our own personal attempt in communicating with a Higher Power. Many people in 12-Step programs have deepened their relationship with their Higher Power using the Centering method. The workshop consists of: • Five conferences • Two periods of Centering
Topics include: • Human Condition • Improving Conscious Contact • Method of Centering • Thoughts and Use of the Word of Intention • Fruits of Centering & Extending the benefits into daily life (Living the 12th Step)
*This workshop is based on the teachings of Thomas Keating who is one of the founders of the Centering Prayer movement and of Contemplative Outreach. One of Thomas Keating’s books is Divine Therapy and Addiction which is a transcript of an interview of Thomas Keating conducted by a recovering alcoholic, Tom S., that deals specifically with using Centering in 12-Step recovery.
The cost of the workshop is $25.00 which includes lunch, a book on Centering and 4 continuing sessions of Centering on Tuesdays from 7-8pm at East Side Alano Club or via Zoom (Oct. 20, 27 & Nov. 3, 10, 2026). Scholarships are available upon request by contacting centeringprayermadison@gmail.com.
